The Genome Sequence of Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli Strain O1:K1:H7 Shares Strong Similarities with Human Extraintestinal Pathogenic E. coli Genomes

Sequenced the full genome of an avian E. coli strain and showed it shares virulence genes with strains that cause serious infections in humans — suggesting poultry could be a reservoir for human disease.

Genotypic and phenotypic traits that distinguish neonatal meningitis-associated Escherichia coli from fecal E. coli isolates of healthy human hosts

Identified the genetic and behavioral traits that separate E. coli strains causing neonatal meningitis from harmless gut bacteria — helping explain why some strains become dangerous in newborns.

Transcriptome analysis of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli O1 in chicken serum reveals adaptive responses to systemic infection

Captured which genes E. coli turns on and off during bloodstream infection in poultry — revealing how the bacterium adapts in real time to survive the host immune response.

Human Computer Interaction Approaches in Genomic Sequencing

Introduced HCI research methods to the genomics community — arguing that sequence analysis tools should be designed around how biologists actually think, not how programmers build pipelines.
